Gas Inspections - July 2014

Posted on: Category: Tenant News

Each year, thousands are affected by carbon monoxide, a poisonous gas that has no colour, taste or smell. However, there are simple steps to help protect your family.

Always ask for a copy of the gas safety record. By law, your landlord must provide you with this before you move in.

If your landlord refuses, you can notify the Health & Safety Executive. Failure to follow gas safety requirements is a criminal offence.

Under the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998, landlords must also arrange a gas safety check every 12 months to ensure gas appliances and fittings are safe, and keep these maintained.

All checks relating to gas safety must be completed by a qualified engineer who is on the Gas Safe Register, which is the official gas registration body for the UK.
